Western Illinois University's men's soccer team played to a 1–1 draw against the University of Southern Indiana on Thursday at John MacKenzie Alumni Field in Macomb, Illinois. The result brings the Leathernecks to a 1-2-3 record in conference play and 3-9-3 overall, while Southern Indiana moves to 1-1-4 in the conference and 2-7-4 overall.
The Leathernecks took an early lead when senior forward Liam Gainey scored less than two minutes into the match. The remainder of the first half saw both teams focus on defense, with Western Illinois maintaining a 1–0 advantage at halftime.
Southern Indiana tied the match in the 58th minute. Edin Cvorovic assisted David Davila for the equalizer. Western Illinois' defense limited further opportunities, and senior goalkeeper Micah Ramirez made several important saves to preserve the draw.
Southern Indiana finished with a 10–8 advantage in total shots and a 6–5 edge in shots on goal. Western Illinois led in corner kicks, 7–6.
The Leathernecks continue conference play as the regular season approaches its end. Their next match is scheduled for Sunday against Liberty at 11 a.m.
