Pittsfield City Council approves June 17 fitness run

The Pittsfield City Council met April 19 to approve the fourth annual Illini Fitness Glow Run on June 17.

The meeting was held in the City Council Room at 215 North Monroe Street. The following officers were present: Mayor John Hayden, City Clerk Cindy Prentice, and Aldermen Kevin Ketchum, Ed Knight, Paul Lennon, Robert Ritchart, Bill Scheiwe, Robert Wilson, Kevin Wombles and Robert Wood.

Alderman Ketchum moved to approve the minutes of the last regular Council meeting.

Alderman Lennon seconded the motion.

Alderman Wood moved to approve the Treasurer’s Monthly Report for the month of March 2016.

Alderman Ritchart moved to accept the Petition for Annexation for Atlas Construction Co. LLP and direct City Attorney Hollahan to draft an ordinance for the annexation.

Mayor Hayden proclaimed April 21, 2016 as Pike County Health and Resource Fair Day.

Alderman Ketchum moved to rehire the two summer helpers from last year with the possibility of one additional summer helper if needed.

Alderman Lennon moved to approve Ordinance No. 1561, An Ordinance Authorizing the Issuance of General Obligation Bonds (Alternate Revenue Source), Series 2016, of the City of Pittsfield, Pike County, Illinois, Providing the Details of Such Bonds and for Applicable Alternate Revenue Sources and Levies of Direct annual Taxes Sufficient to Pay the Principal of and Interest on Such Bonds, and Related Matters, on its first reading.

Alderman Knight seconded the motion.

Chief of Police Yelliott is researching the request for a stop sign at the intersection of Memorial and Perry Streets. A bracket for the radar sign has been placed to monitor speed for south bound traffic. He will make a recommendation to the Council at a later date.

Alderman Ritchart moved to table the vacation of a portion of Mason Street until Street & Alley Foreman Jeff Griggs and Gas & Water Foreman Bruce McKee can further study the area.

Alderman Wood seconded the motion.

AldermanRitchart moved to award the bid for Kamar Drive to County Contractors in the amount of $541,940.00 and authorize the Mayor to sign all necessary documents.

Mayor Hayden reminded everyone of the City clean up days April 23-30, 2016. Hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. There are no hours on Sunday.

Mayor Hayden said someone is looking at the Irving building to buy, clean up and refurbish. The Higbee property is supposed to be knocked down by the end of the month. The animal shelter project is waiting on Ameren for power and they should be moving in 4-6 weeks.

Alderman Ritchart moved to approve the Finance Committee Report and the Clerk be directed to issue the claims thereon.

Mayor Hayden stated a budget meeting will be set in the next 2-3 weeks and will be at 5:00 p.m.
