Godfrey Parks and Recreation plans to begin hosting cheerleading clinics for young enthusiasts on Saturdays, beginning Feb. 4.
Age-appropriate sessions will be held for those age three on up through fifth grade. Those interested will learn about cheering, voice projection, jumps and other cheering techniques. Each group of cheerleaders will have six practices, all on Saturdays, at Alton Middle School, 2200 College Ave., in the Olin Building, Room 808.
Classes run back to back, with the "rookie" group -- 3 to 5 -- having its sessions at 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Kindergarten through second-graders meet for an hour starting at 10:15, and third through fifth graders meet for 90 minutes beginning at 11:15 a.m.
A final performance will be held at the Youth Basketball League End-of-Season Tournament at River Bend Arena, Lewis and Clark College, on March 18.
Regular registration takes place through Jan. 13; it costs $40 for residents and $50 for non-residents. Registration includes a T-shirt.
A registration form, including payment information, is available online. For more information about the program, visit www.godfreyil.org.
