Analysis: Sales tax funded 9 percent of City of East Peoria budget in 2016

The City of East Peoria's local sales tax brought in $5,943,521 in 2016, according to Illinois State Comptroller revenue data. East Peoria, population 23,402, relied on its local sales tax to contribute 9 percent of total revenue that year.

East Peoria levies a 1.25 percent sales tax. The average of five suburbs in Tazewell County is 0.95. The high is 1.25 percent; the low is 0 percent.

West Central Reporter analyzed the sales tax collections in five Tazewell County suburbs and found they generated a total of $13,878,944 in tax revenue in 2016. That was the equivalent of 9% spent by local government.
