Virginia Community Unit School District 64 Board met January 22. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the board:

The Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Education of Virginia Community Unit School District No. 64, Cass County which was Held on Monday, January 22, 2018 in the Virginia CUSD 64 Media Center.


The Regular Board Meeting was Called to Order by President Matt Werner at 7:00 pm with the Following Members Answering Present: Casey French, Kara Lynch, Gary Bell, Dustin Fritsche, Stephanie Hobrock and Matt Werner. Joanie Bell was Absent.

Also Present were Superintendent Gary Depatis, Elementary Principal Kara Bowman, Linda Brown, Molly Kisling, Jennie Birdsell, Amy Reynolds, Callie Jackson, Steve Clark, Brian Boeving and News Media Leigh Morris.

The Pledge of Allegiance was Recited by All that were Present.

There were No Deletions/Additions to the Agenda

Under Public Comment/Visitors:

Amy Reynolds Spoke on Behalf of the Virginia Foundation. She said the Foundation is Still Active and Wanted to Get the Word Out to Staff Members. Amy Gave a Brief History of the Foundation and said that Request Forms are Available in the District Office.

A Motion was Made by Ms. Hobrock and Seconded by Mr. French to Approve the Consent Agenda, The Bills, Payroll Report, Financial Reports and the Minutes of the Regular Board Meeting of December 18, 2017. Roll Call:

Other Items Discussed at the Meeting were the Chicago School Board Conference. Matt Werner and Casey French Both Spoke About Sessions they Attended. Some Ideas were to Find Ways to Increase Rigor of Our Curriculum and Increasing Vocational Offerings for Students.

The Board Also Discussed the First Reading of Policy 6:240- Field Trips and Recreational Trips (No Motion was Made. Action will be Taken at Next Months Meeting) Mr Depatis Gave a Brief Update on the Latest ADHOCC Committee Meeting.

A Motion was Made by Mr. Fritsche and Seconded by Ms. Lynch to Approve the Resolution Transferring Funds from the School Facility Occupation Tax Fund of the District, to the Bond and Interest Fund of the District and Abating the Tax Heretofore Levied to Pay Debt Service on General Obligation Bonds (Alternate Revenue Source), Series 2011b, of the District. Roll Call:

A Motion was Made by Ms. Lynch and Seconded by Mrs. Hobrock to Approve the Hire of Diane Razo as Jr. High Girls Track Coach. Roll Call:

A Motion was Made by Ms. Lynch and Seconded by Mr. French to Approve the Field Trip for the HS English and Sociology Classes to St. Louis, Mo to See the Holocaust Memorial Museum on March 5, 2018. Roll Call:

A Motion was Made by Mrs. Hobrock and Seconded by Mr. Fritsche to Approve the 4th Grade Trip to the Shriner’s Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. On May 11, 2018. Roll Call:

Ms. Bowman, Mr. Llewellyn and Mr. Depatis went Over and Discussed Principaland Superintendent Reports with the Board. Items Discussed were Map Testing, Pipe in Kitchen, Leak in Media Center and the Masonic Scholastic Bowl Happening on February 17, 2018.

A Motion was Made by Ms. Lynch and Seconded by Mr. French to Move into Executive Session [ILCS120/2/ (C)] 1) To Consider Employment, Compensation, Discipline, Performance or Dismissal of Certified Staff at 7:45 pm. Roll Call:
