New Salem Fire Protection District responded to 12 calls in 2017 - 20 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in New Salem included 10 fires - three structure fires and seven other fires.

The department also received two false calls.

The New Salem Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $60,528 in 2017.
