South Jacksonville FD responds to 47 fires in 2017

South Jacksonville Fire Department responded to 87 calls in 2017 - 55.4 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in South Jacksonville included 47 fires - 22 structure fires, nine vehicle fires and 16 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $232,200 in fire loss - or about $4,940 per fire.

The department also received 39 false calls, including one malicious call and 38 other false calls.
