Western Illinois men's soccer prepares for rematch with Eastern Illinois

Western Illinois University's men's soccer team is preparing for a rematch against Eastern Illinois University this Saturday, October 25, at Lakeside Field in Charleston. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.

This is the second time the two teams have met this season. Their previous encounter ended in a 1-1 draw. Western Illinois leads the all-time series with a record of 4-3-3 against Eastern Illinois.

Currently, Western Illinois has an overall record of 3-9-4 and a conference record of 1-2-4. Eastern Illinois stands at 3-7-3 overall and 2-3-2 in Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) play. The match carries significance for both teams as they are close in the conference standings, with Eastern Illinois in fifth place and Western Illinois in sixth, both aiming to improve their postseason prospects.

Eastern Illinois will be celebrating Senior Day during this match, coming off a recent 2-0 win over the University of Southern Indiana. Western Illinois, meanwhile, is looking for a win after drawing their last two matches. Senior forward Liam Gainey leads Western Illinois with six goals this season.
