The price of local government in 2016: Schuyler County

The Schuyler County budget was $8.58 million for its 2016 fiscal year.

That's a decrease of 4.5 percent from 2015, when the county spent $8.99 million.

Schuyler County has a population of 7,200.

Since 2001, the Schuyler County budget has grown by 17.9 percent, from $7.28 million. The county population has fallen four percent over the same period, from 7,500.

Salaries accounted for 23.6 percent of county spending in 2016. Schuyler County property taxpayers paid $2.03 million for 57 full-time employees and 32 part-time employees.

In 2001, the county had 38 full-time employees and five part-time employees, and spent $2.57 million.
