Former state school employee Niffen paid in $22K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $305K in retirement

Former state school employee Anita Niffen, who retired in May 2016, saved $22,382 toward a pension over 7 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Niffen would collect as much as $304,994, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes West Central Reporter.

The projection assumes Niffen received $6,410 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Niffen will have already received $26,816 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
