Waverly Community Unit School District 6 Board met Jan. 13.
Here is the minutes provided by the board:
1. The Board of Education of Community Unit School District #6, Morgan, Sangamon, and Macoupin Counties, Illinois met for the regular session at Waverly High School. Board President Mike Keeton called the regular meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and the following members answered present: Jim Brown, Lonn Brown, Mike Keeton, Ted Mies, Nick Nelson, Steve Ruholl and Jason Shumaker. 2. Public Comment-No comments were made.
3. Scheduled Audience Participation
3.1 Scheduled Teacher Presentations
4. Adjustments to Agenda-An adjustment was made to the agenda about last months’ meeting, the audit people will not be here to discuss the agenda, it is on their website.
5. Reports and Recommendations
5.1 Administrators
● 5.1.1 Mrs. Robin Lowder, Elementary Dean of Students, thanked the Board and Administrations for the hoodie given at Christmas.
● She also discussed the lockdown drill.
● The remote numbers are the same. Out of 208 students, 36 were still remote. They must have a medical excuse to stay home and be remote.
● 5.1.2 Mr. Scott Hendricks, Junior High and High School Principal, discussed the lockdown and making sure the inside doors are locked.
● Chromebooks are starting to be delivered. They also ordered a way to track the chromebooks if they were to get lost.
● Discussed the late work policy for all the students.
● An email from IHSA was received and discussed allowing open gyms and having a supervisor watching them. Can have up to 50 athletes in the gym. This will help mold the kids and do something for our athletes.
5.2 Superintendent
5.2.1 Mr. Dustin Day, District Superintendent, discussed days for High School graduation.
● Credits for graduation have been lowered due to the Covid outbreak.
● Title 1 funding can purchase a new Reading and Math Series.
● Chromebooks are still being delivered.
● Ameren will install lights when they are available.
● Canopies on both sides were old and have been repaired. ● Our State Grant money is prepared and ready to use.
● Kevin Bowman, NW Windfarm, has solar panels and tax dollars that we can use.
● Discussed snow days, Covid learning and e-learning. If we know there will be ice on Friday, then we can prepare for that.
● Discussed graduation day and where it will be held. High School graduation will be held Saturday May 29th at 2 p.m. at the Waverly Salter park, weather permitting.
6. Consent Agenda:
● Steve Ruholl moved, Jason Shumaker seconded to consent to the agenda with changes and approve the minutes of the regular meeting on December 9, 2020. Also the financial reports of :
● Treasurer’s Report
● Bills Payable
● Payroll
● Reports: Elementary Fund, Jr/Sr High Fund. All of these motions were approved. Roll Call: All ayes.
7. Executive Session-The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity & Collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees.
● Lonn Brown moved, Jim Brown seconded to enter into executive session at 7:25 p.m. Roll Call: All ayes.
● Jason Shumaker moved, Jim Brown seconded to return to the regular meeting at 11:02 p.m. Roll Call: All ayes.
8. New Business
8.1 Jim Brown moved, Jason Shumaker seconded to approve authorization to seal close session minutes from July 2020-December 2020 because the need for confidentiality still exists to protect an individual’s privacy or the district’s interests. Roll Call: All ayes. 8.2 Steve Ruholl moved, Lonn Brown seconded to set the graduation date for the 2020-2021 school year for Saturday May 29th, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Waverly Salter Park. Roll Call: All ayes.
8.3 Jim Brown moved, Steve Ruholl seconded to change graduation requirements to 26 credits for the class of 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. Roll Call: All ayes.
8.4 Ted Mies moved, Nick Nelson seconded to approve the Memorandum of Understanding between the Board of Education and the Waverly Education Association regarding teacher evaluations for the school year 2020-2021. Roll Call: All ayes.
8.5 Jim Brown moved, Jason Shumaker seconded to approve students to return to in-person learning five days a week beginning February 1st. Roll Call: All ayes.
9. Adjournment
● Lonn Brown moved, Jason Shumaker seconded to adjourn the meeting at 11:07 p.m.
