McDonough County Board Law & Legal Committee met Jan. 3.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Law & Legal Committee held its monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse Courtroom 201. Committee Members present included Committee Chair Joe Erlandson, Vice Chair Ken Durkin, Lee Calvert, Eric Chapman, Travis Hiel, Michael Kirby, Terra Litchfield, Julie Melvin. Other persons in attendance were County Chair Scott Schwerer, Committee Secretary Stacey Alexander, Patrick Stout, and Ric Smart.

Chair Erlandson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Review & Approve December 6, 2021 Minutes 

Member Calvert moved with a second by Member Chapman to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Waste Management Update 

Report received and filed.

Tri-County Recycling 

No report.

Veteran’s Assistance and Van Report 

Ric Smart gave the report. Seven Veterans were given assistance in December. Total assistance amounted to $1535.15.

Sheriff’s Report 

Report received and filed.

Assessor’s Office Update 

Supervisor of Assessments Tammy Camp contacted County Chair Schwerer and Committee Chair Erlandson about hiring a new employee before she retires. She would like to raise Heather Camp to $30,000.00, and the new employee to start at 28,000.00. Member Hiel moved with a second by Member Chapman to approve raising Heather Camp to $30,000.00 and to start the new employee at $28,00.00. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Claims Review and Approval 

Vice Chair Durkin moved with a second by Member Melvin to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Public Comment 

None.

County Board Chair Comments 

County Chair Schwerer informed the Committee that the Health Department will be reporting COVID cases differently. Their door dash will be different colors based on open cases. The School District will be taking over testing and tracing for cases involving the schools.

County Chair Schwerer, Member Chapman, and Member Cox are doing interviews for the Highway Maintenance position at the Highway Department January 4, 2022.

Vice Chair Durkin moved with a second by Member Chapman to adjourn the meeting at 7:22 p.m. Motion carried on a voice vote.
