McDonough County Board Law & Legal Committee met Feb. 7.
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
The Law & Legal Committee held its monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, Courtroom 201. Committee Members present included Committee Chair Joe Erlandson, Vice Chair Ken Durkin, Lee Calvert, Eric Chapman, Travis Hiel, Michael Kirby, Terra Litchfield, and Julie Melvin. Other persons in attendance were County Chair Scott Schwerer, Committee Secretary Stacey Alexander, Patrick Stout, Ric Smart, Tim Lobdell, Sheriff Nick Petitgout, Assessor Chief Deputy Deborah Cousins, State’s Attorney Matt Kwacala, and Dave Schaab.
Chair Erlandson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Review & Approve January 3, 2022 Minutes
Member Calvert moved with a second by Member Melvin to approve the minutes with corrections. Motion carried on a voice vote.
Waste Management Update
Dave Schaab gave the report.
Tri-County Recycling
Tim Lobdell gave the report.
Veteran’s Assistance and Van Report
Ric Smart gave the report. Eight Veterans were given assistance in January, total assistance amounted to $1,631.15. Smart informed the Committee that they have a new van.
Sheriff’s Report
Sheriff Nick Petitgout gave the report. Petitgout stated that the Department of Corrections is not taking inmates at this time, the State is reimbursing the County for holding inmates. County Chair Schwerer thanked Petitgout for closing the Courthouse on February 2nd due to the weather.
Assessor’s Office Update
Chief Deputy Debra Cousins gave the report. The rollover for 2022 taxes went well, and they have started interviewing for the open position in their office.
Claims Review and Approval
Member Durkin moved with a second by Member Kirby to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.
Other
Chair Erlandson spoke with State’s Attorney Kwacala regarding the CO2 pipeline. Kwacala said the pipelines are governed by Federal Transportation and the County will have nothing to do with them.
Executive Session
A motion to enter Executive Session was made by Member Durkin with a second by Member Chapman to discuss litigation under Sub-section C11 of open meetings act at 7:35 p.m.
A motion to exit Executive Session was made by Member Durkin with a second by Member Chapman at 8:02 p.m. The matter will be sent to Full Board on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.
Public Comment
None.
County Board Chair Comments
County Chair Schwerer informed the Committee that they have not had any applicants for the County Engineer position, and they will advertise the position again.
Adjourn
Member Chapman moved with a second by Member Kirby to adjourn the meeting at 8:05 p.m. Motion carried on a voice vote.
