City of Dallas City City Council met Jan. 26.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The Dallas City City Council held its regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. Mayor Kevin Six called the meeting to order with the following commissioners present: Carole McDowell, Peggy Newberry, and Greg Olson. Harold Northup Jr. was absent.

Others attending the meeting were Anne Thompson, Tracy Markey, and Gary Smith.

A motion was made by Newberry, and 2nd by McDowell to accept the minutes of the January 12, 2022, meeting. McDowell, Newberry, Olson, and Six AYE. Northup ABSENT.

Tracy Markey reported that there had been a couple of minor problems with lift stations, but they have been repaired. He has reported that there appears to be a leak in a water line, but that it has not been located yet. It will be repaired as soon as it is found.

Anne Thompson discussed activity that has been going on at the old high school building and some windows in this building that need to be boarded up. The police chief reported that some of the activity that has been going on in the old high school building has been people that have been hired by the property owner to prepare the building for demolition.

Discussed dog owners that are refusing to use leashes when they are walking their dogs and also allowing the dogs to defecate in other people's yards without picking it up.

Police Chief Gary Smith reported that the testing for the new part-time police officers has been postponed and re-scheduled for a later date. He discussed purchasing a set of stop sticks. The police department currently has one set of stop sticks in one of the police vehicles, but there is not any in the other vehicle. The cost for a set of stop sticks, including a sleeve and storage bag, is $475. The department does not have a sleeve or storage bag for the set of stop sticks that they currently have. The cost of a sleeve is $43 and the cost of a storage bag is $49. A motion was made by McDowell, and 2nd by Olson to purchase a set of stop sticks, that includes a sleeve and storage bag, and an additional sleeve and storage bag for $567. McDowell, Newberry, Olson, and Six AYE. Northup ABSENT.

Commissioner Olson reported that he is still looking for a used motor for the old city truck. Also discussed possibly looking for a different truck and putting the bed and hoist of the current truck in it. Mayor Six reported that the City of Carthage might be going to sell one of their current trucks that has a bed and hoist in the near future.

Mayor Six read a “Thank You” from the Dallas City Christmas Committee for the city's donation.

Discussed the possible flood buy out. The city clerk has been contacted by IEMA regarding additional information that FEMA is requiring. He is working on getting this done for them.

A motion was made by Olson, and 2nd by Newberry to give City Clerk Steve Vorhies a $400 bonus for the extra work that he has been doing regarding the possible flood buy out. McDowell, Newberry, Olson, and Six AYE. Northup ABSENT.

Discussed the city's streets employee. The current employee has indicated he might be considering retirement in a couple of years. Discussed looking for someone that could be a possible replacement.

A motion was made by Olson, and 2nd by McDowell to adjourn the meeting. McDowell, Newberry, Olson, and Six AYE. Northup ABSENT.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:26 p.m.
