City of Barry City Council met April 4

City of Barry City Council met April 4.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Mayor Rennecker called the meeting of the Barry City Council to order at 7 p.m. and then led all present in the Pledge of Allegiance. All elected officials were present except Bob Dieker.

Steve Schultz made a motion to approve the minutes from the March meeting and Marynel Corton seconded the motion. Motion carried with 5 ayes, 0 nays and 1 absent. Steve Schultz made a motion to approve payment of the bills and Justin Puterbaugh seconded the motion. Motion carried with 5 ayes, 0 nays and 1 absent. Robert Snyder gave the Public Works Director report. He said they have been using the backhoe and patching holes. The light poles are down and all bolts have been cut off. Mayor Rennecker asked if we should put planter boxes on the bases so no one would trip on them. Steve Schultz said if they are small enough and the flowers would have to be watered every day. Robert said they serviced the vehicles because the weather wasn’t very good for anything else. Robert stated they would probably flush hydrants at the end of month. There is going to be another tire pick up on April 5, 2022 to April 15, 2022. We have to take them to Griggsville on the 19th. Bridget Cramsey stated that Bob Dieker said the shower curtains at the pool need repaired and needs cleaned up. Jeff Hogge gave the City Administrators report. The dumpsters have been ordered for the Spring Clean Up. Had a conference call with Curt Larson about American Fresh Water Fishery and delivered TIF applications to business around town. Jeff also watched webinar on water systems and new regulations, completed Workers Comp payroll audit and completed payroll audit for the United States Department of Commerce. Mayor Rennecker discussed the sewer jetter bids. The City received two bids, one from American Pride Distributors and the other from Jet Vac Environmental. The one from Jet Vac provided what we were looking for; it has a bigger tank and is more like the one that the City had only bigger. Steve Schultz made a motion to purchase the sewer jetter from Jet Vac for $77582 and Bridget Cramsey seconded the motion. Roll call taken: Bob Dieker – absent

Motion carried with 5 ayes, 0 nays and 1 absent to purchase the sewer jetter from Jet Vac in the amount of $77582.

Jeff Hogge discussed the uniform bids. He said that Cintas would cost $30.27 a month for 3 years and is a government bid and will not change. Aramark bid is $101.71 and also for 3 years. Jeff recommended going with Cintas. Steve Schultz made a motion to switch to Cintas for uniforms for City workers and Justin Puterbaugh seconded the motion. Roll call taken:

Motion carried with 5 ayes, 0 nays and 1 absent to go with Cintas.

Mayor Rennecker asked the Council to appoint Jane Ralph to the Barry Library Board. Steve Schultz made a motion to appoint Jane Ralph to the Library Board and Marynel Corton seconded the motion. Motion carried with 5 ayes, 0 nays and 1 absent. Council discussed Lora Sheppard’s road request. Mayor Rennecker said they asked if they could build a road at their own expense so they would have access to property on their own land from house to Chauncey Street. Jeff told them to have written plan and bring to council meeting. Sheppard’s did not attend the meeting so no determination was made. A detailed plan plus city’s engineering and construction details would have to be reviewed before approving.

Mowing bids will be taken for LaFayette Park, Holy Redeemer Park & Mt Dew ball field and Barry Pool Park. Bids are to be turned in by Friday, April 29th at 4 p.m. Will be advertising for full time Public Works Department position – application deadline is April 29, 2022. Also advertising for summer help maintenance worker – application deadline is April 29, 2022.

The City is accepting bids on installation of HVAC at the Barry Museum. Bids are to be turned in to City Hall by Friday, April 29th by 4 p.m.

Mayor Rennecker stated that with the closing of the golf course Andrew Conley contacted the new owners to see if they would sell the poles and net for sand volley ball and said Natalie Roseberry told Andrew they would donate them to the City to be put at the YMCA. Andrew said they could have sand volleyball tournaments and the money could be put in an account for repairs of net, poles and sand and that he would have every Friday off and he would rake the court and do his best to keep the sand clean. Mayor Rennecker said there is a flat 30 x 60 area at the YMCA that would work for this. Bridget Cramsey made a motion to approve Andrew to work with Robert at Holy Redeemer Park and Marynel Corton seconded the motion. Motion carried with 5 ayes, 0 nays and 1 absent.

Steve Schultz made a motion to go into executive session at 8:15 p.m. Council returned from executive session and was approved to give all employees a 3% raise on May 1, 2022
