McDonough County Board Law & Legal Committee met April 4.

The Law & Legal Committee held its monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, Courtroom 201. Committee Members present included Committee Chair Joe Erlandson, Lee Calvert, Travis Hiel, Michael Kirby, Terra Litchfield, and Julie Melvin. Committee Members Ken Durkin, and Eric Chapman were absent. Other persons in attendance were County Chair Scott Schwerer, Committee Secretary Stacey Alexander, Patrick Stout, Ric Smart, Tim Lobdell, and Sheriff Nick Petitgout.
Chair Erlandson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Review & Approve March 7, 2022 Minutes
Member Litchfield moved with a second by Member Calvert to approve the minutes with corrections. Motion carried on a voice vote.
Waste Management Update
Report received and filed.
Tri-County Recycling
Tim Lobdell gave the report. Industry Township clean up is the first weekend in May 2022, Eldorado Township is April 22nd and 23rd, and New Salem Township will be April 29th and 30th.
Veteran’s Assistance and Van Report
Ric Smart gave the report. Ten Veterans were given assistance in March. Total assistance amounted to $2,586.28. One Veteran was given assistance from the donation fund in the amount of $386.00. Nine trips were made to Iowa City for 15 Veterans, drivers contributed 70.75 hours.
Sheriff’s Report
Sheriff Nick Petitgout went over the report. They are required to have body cameras by January 1, 2025, he has received a quote that is good for 6 months. The cost for the body cameras and cameras in 3 cars is $146,349.00, and there will be an annual fee of $19,000.00 for unlimited video storage. Sheriff Petitgout stated that he has approximately $83,000.00 for this.
Assessor’s Office Update
No report.
Claims Review and Approval
Member Melvin moved with a second by Member Kirby to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.
