McDonough County Board Law & Legal Committee met June 6.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The Law & Legal Committee held its monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, Courtroom 201. Committee Members present included Committee Chair Joe

Erlandson, Vice Chair Ken Durkin, Lee Calvert, Eric Chapman, Travis Hiel, Michael Kirby, and Julie Melvin. Member Terra Litchfield was absent. Other persons in attendance were Patrick Stout, Dave Schaab, Ric Smart, Deborah Cousins, Sheriff Nick Petitgout, Adam Cremer, Dana Walker, County Chair Scott Schwerer, and Committee Secretary Stacey Alexander.

Chair Erlandson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Review & Approve May 2, 2022 Minutes

Member Durkin moved with a second by Member Calvert to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Waste Management Update

Dave Schaab gave the report. Vice Chair Durkin addressed the fuel cost, Schaab so far this year there has been a 53.8% increase. Chair Erlandson informed the Committee that he is trying to arrange a tour of the landfill at the end of July.

Tri-County Recycling

No Report.

Veteran’s Assistance and Van Report

Ric Smart gave the report. Nine Veterans were given assistance in May. Total assistance amounted to $2,402.51.

Sheriff’s Report

Sheriff Nick Petitgout gave the report. Petitgout asked the Committee if it was possible to consider giving a sign on bonus, or a bonus after one year of employment for the jailers. A discussion was held regarding jailers. Fuel is also becoming an issue, at this rate the budget might last another two months.

Assessor’s Office Update

Deborah Cousins gave an update. She informed the Committee that the farmland assessment meeting was held, and they have found an assessor the Industry-New Salem-Eldorado Township. There will be a retirement party for Tammy Camp from 1:00-3:00 on June 30th

Claims Review and Approval

Member Chapman moved with a second by Member Hiel to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

County Board Chair Comments

County Chair Schwerer informed the Committee that the Circuit Clerk in Hancock County sent a thank you for our Circuit

Clerk’s office for helping them.

Adjourn

Member Hiel moved with a second by Member Melvin to adjourn the meeting at 7:40 p.m. Motion carried on a voice vote.
