Western Illinois University will host Eastern Illinois University in a football game on Saturday, September 27 at Hanson Field in Macomb, Illinois. The matchup marks the opening of Ohio Valley Conference (OVC)–Big South play for both teams. Western Illinois enters the contest with a 1-3 record, while Eastern Illinois stands at 1-2.

Last week, Western Illinois lost to Eastern Washington with a score of 52-31. Quarterback Chris Irvin led the team's passing efforts and running back Markell Holman rushed for 118 yards. Wide receiver Christian Anaya caught two touchdown passes, bringing his season total to three. Kicker Antonio Chadha made a 39-yard field goal and remained perfect on extra-point attempts. Chadha was also recognized as OVC Player of the Week for his performance.

Defensively, Keith Moko and Justin Richardson each recorded an interception during the previous game.

Eastern Illinois began its season with a win over Dayton but followed with losses to Indiana State and Illinois State. Their quarterback, Cole LaCrue, is known for his dual-threat capabilities and ability to extend plays.

Key strategies for Western Illinois include establishing Holman early in the run game, limiting big plays from LaCrue, and maintaining strong special teams performance through Chadha's kicking.

The game not only opens conference play but also renews an in-state rivalry between the two programs. A victory would provide momentum as both teams move into their conference schedules.

Saturday's event will feature Kid's Day promotions: children under 12 can attend free of charge. Rocky's Kids Club activities will take place at Hanson Field’s southwest corner, where members can pick up club packets at Western Hall for $25 admission into the club. The Rocky's Kids Club captain will be honored during the third quarter of the game.
