City of Dallas City City Council met Aug. 10.

The Dallas City City Council held its regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. Mayor Kevin Six called the meeting to order with the following commissioners present: Carole McDowell, Peggy Newberry, Harold Northup Jr., and Greg Olson.
Others attending the meeting were Anne Thompson, Mike Clanton, Doug Erickson, and Gary Smith.
A motion was made by McDowell, and 2nd by Olson to accept the minutes of the July 27, 2022, meeting. McDowell, Newberry, Olson, and Six AYE. Northup ABSTAIN.

Doug Erickson reported that there is going to be surveying work done for the new sewer lift station project and the boat ramp project in the near future. He is hoping to be able to get started on the sewer lift station project next July. He also reported that he has 2 water pressure recorders to be used to try to determine what needs to be done to solve the low water pressure problems in town. Discussed getting a plan in place for the removal of any water lines that need to be replaced due to any lead service lines.
Mike Clanton discussed the new water lines that he and Terry Brewer are wanting to install to their properties. Discussed what their options were and what would be required, based on which option they select, like easements, tapping fees, etc.
Police Chief Gary Smith gave his police report for the month of July 2022. The department will have its last scheduled firing range for the year on September 1. Also, one of the handheld radar units has a short in its power cord, and it will be sent in for repair.
Chief Smith has gotten prices from U.S. Cellular for the cell phones and mobile devices that need to be replaced due to U.S. Cellular discontinuing 3G service. The price for two Inseego 5G MIFI mobile devices is $299/each. If the city signs a 36 month contract with U.S. Cellular for its cell phone service, then we can receive new phones for no charge. Chief Smith also informed the council that there might be a chance that we will need to update our current cell phone plan due to usage and requirements. A motion was made by Northup, and 2nd by Olson to purchase two Inseego 5G MIFI mobile devices for $299 each and to sign a new 36 month contract with U.S. Cellular and replace the city's current cell phones. Discussed making a donation to the Illini West High School Trap Shoot team for their upcoming raffle. A motion was made by McDowell, and 2nd by Newberry to donate a $100 gift certificate to The Clinic Bar & Grill in Dallas City to the Illini West High School Trap Shoot team for their upcoming raffle. McDowell, Newberry, Northup, Olson, and Six AYE.
Discussed the tearing down of the old high school building. The owner of the property has informed Mayor Six that he will consider making the stones from the castle building available for the public to purchase.
Discussed the three lots west of the boat dock parking lot that are currently owned by Union Electric Company. The three lots consist of 3.49 acres of ground. The current appraised value of the 3.49 acres is $7,000. Union Electric Company has indicated that they are willing to sell this ground to the city for the appraised value. A motion was made by Northup, and 2nd by Olson to purchase the three lots, consisting of 3.49 acres, west of the boat dock parking lot for $7,000. This consists of Hancock County Property Index Numbers 04-03-000-147, 04-03-000-149, and 04-03-000-148. McDowell, Newberry, Northup, Olson, and Six AYE.
A motion was made by Northup, and 2nd by Olson to adjourn the meeting. McDowell, Newberry, Northup, Olson, and Six AYE.
