McDonough County Board Law & Legal Committee met July 3.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The Law & Legal Committee held its monthly meeting on Monday, July 3, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, Courtroom 201. Committee Members present included Committee Chair Joe Erlandson, Vice Chair Ken Durkin, Eric Blakeley, Eric Chapman, Letha Clark, Travis Hiel, Michael Kirby, and Terra Litchfield. Other persons in attendance were Patrick Stout, Dave Schaab, Ric Smart, Deborah Cousins, Sheriff Nick Petitgout, County Chair Scott Schwerer, and Deputy Clerk Stacey Alexander.

Chair Erlandson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Review & Approve June 5, 2023 Minutes

Member Durkin moved with a second by Member Blakeley to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Waste Management Update

Dave Schaab gave the report.

Tri-County Recycling

No report.

Veteran’s Assistance and Van Report

Ric Smart gave the report. Eleven Veterans were given assistance in June. Total assistance amounted to $2,305.15.

Sheriff’s Report

Sheriff Nick Petitgout gave the report. They have contracted with the City of Colchester to provide them with a full-time officer. This is a 3-year contract for approximately $95,000.00. Sheriff Petitgout stated that he would like to work out a long-term contract with Colchester. The body cameras are almost done, they have three more cars to complete. County Chair Schwerer would like an update at the next meeting regarding the school officer.

Assessor’s Office Update

Assessor Deborah Cousins gave the report.

CO2 Pipeline Update

Committee Chair Erlandson provided an update from the ICC Website.

Claims Review and Approval

Member Chapman moved with a second by Member Hiel to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Other

Steve Hess gave an update on the CO2 pipeline, on July 17th at 5:30 p.m. there will be a public meeting at the Civic Center in Springfield regarding pipelines.

Public Comment

None.

County Board Chair Comments

Chair Schwerer stated that the bidding for masonry repairs to the Courthouse will continue until Friday, July 14th at 11:00 a.m. in the Law Library. The new outside entrance to the Courthouse will be marked soon.

Member Hiel moved with a second by Member Kirby to adjourn the meeting at 7:36 p.m. Motion carried on a voice vote.
