City of Hamilton City Council met Sept. 5.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. ROLL CALL

The Hamilton City Council met in regular session 7:00pm at the Hamilton City Hall or remotely by Zoom. Attending in person were Mayor Bocephus Casey, Aldermen Tommy Buckert, Justin Hobby, Brandon Wilson, Beverly Boone, Steve Schlatter, and Debbie Summers, City Clerk Michelle Dorethy, Public Works Department Josh Turner, Police Department Mike Boley, Attorney Tom Hartzell.

2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Mayor Casey led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance.

3. MINUTES OF August 21, 2023

Wilson made a motion to approve the minutes of the August 21st meeting. Boone seconded the motion. Roll was called with Buckert, Hobby, Wilson, Boone, Schlatter, and Summers voting aye.

Motion carried.

4. MAYOR’S COMMENTS

Mayor Casey reported there were 173 cars in the park and 36 vendors on Broadway. Thank you Economic and Tourism Committee and everyone involved with making the Marketplace a success over the weekend.

It was also reported that W.L. Miller will begin the milling in place portion of the MFT project on Thursday, September 7th, the Public Works Department will be flushing hydrants on Monday, September 11th thru Friday, September 15th, and the Homecoming Parade is Thursday, September 14th and game on Saturday in Hamilton.

5. WELCOME VISITORS

Mayor Casey welcomed Brian Frericks with QFB Energy. Brian reported the new commercial electric rate for the City of Hamilton owned properties would be .06825/kwh for a 36 month contract. Summers made a motion to approve the 3 year contract. Wilson seconded the motion. Roll was called with Hobby, Wilson, Boone, Schlatter, Summers, and Buckert voting aye.

Motion carried.

6. FINANCE & APPROPRIATIONS

a. Selected Check Registers

Summers made a motion to approve the Selected Check Registers. Schlatter seconded the motion. Roll was called with Wilson, Boone, Schlatter, Summers, Buckert and Hobby voting aye.

Motion carried.

Ayes: 6 / Nays: 0

b. New Bank Account for Hamilton K-9

Summers made a motion to approve opening a new bank account for donations to be deposited towards funding the Hamilton K-9. Authorized signers will be Michelle Dorethy, Cindy Dupree and Frankie Bryant. Hobby seconded the motion. Roll was called with Boone, Schlatter, Summers, Buckert, Hobby and Wilson voting aye.

Motion carried.

7. HEALTH & SAFETY

Wilson had nothing new to report at this time.

8. BUILDING & GROUNDS, PERMITS & ZONING:

Boone reported the Health and Safety committee will hold a meeting on Wednesday, September 13th at 5:00pm.

a. Building/Demolition Permits

Boone made a motion to approve the following building permits:

1. 42 modules for roof mounted Solar Panels to Randy Bird at 1951 Church St

2. 20’L x 25’W x 10H addition to building to Art Rickard at 641 North 19th St

3. 16’L x 15’W Sunroom (modify of the old porch) to Tom Dale at 311 Woodland

4. 30’L 25’W Cement Driveway to Lee Noe at 111 South 13th

5. Demolition of 50’ x 12’ trailer mounted on poles to Julie Mills at 110 East Spring Island

Schlatter seconded the motion. Roll was called with Schlatter, Summers, Buckert, Hobby Wilson and Boone voting aye.

Motion carried.

b. Bids for Garbage Pick-up

Boone reported we had received two bids for the City building’s garbage pick-up.

Kohlmorgan Hauling for $270.00 and Ray Bradley & Sons for $435.00. The bid includes dumpsters at Water Plant, Community Center and City Hall. Trash cans at Street Barn, Fire Department and the City owned cans on Broadway. Boone made a motion to approve continuing with Kohlmorgan Hauling at the $270.00/month price.

Schlatter seconded the motion. Roll was called with Summers, Buckert, Hobby, Wilson, Boone and Schlatter voting aye.

Motion carried.

9. PUBLIC WORKS

Schlatter gave a reported the Public Works committee will hold a meeting on Wednesday, September 13th at 6:00pm.

10. ECONOMIC & TOURISM

Buckert gave a report on the Economic & Tourism committee meeting held on August 29th.

11. ADJOURNMENT

Buckert made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:40pm. Wilson seconded the motion. Roll was called with Buckert, Hobby, Wilson, Boone, Schlatter, and Summers voting aye.
