McDonough County Board Human Resources and Planning Committee met Jan. 11.

The Human Resources and Planning Committee met on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, Courtroom 201. Committee Members in attendance included Chair Letha Clark, George Dixon, Jerry Raby, and Dana Walker. Members Vicky Kipling, Dustin Berg, Michael Kirby, and Dave Nissen were absent. Others in attendance included Animal Control Officer Zach Welch, Karen Blakeley, Bonnie Skripps, Ken Durkin, County Chair Scott Schwerer, and Deputy Clerk Stacey Alexander.
Chair Letha Clark called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Review and Approve Minutes from December 14, 2023
Member Dixon moved with a second by Member Walker to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.
Animal Control Report
Animal Control Officer, Zach Welch gave the report. There was 14 dogs and 29 cats in the shelter at the end of December. Veterans can now adopt a cat or a dog every two years for free.
Humane Society
Bonnie Skripps informed the Committee that they are happy with the new hire at the shelter. Their annual meeting will be later this month, and casino night is on March 2nd.

Pet Population Control
A discussion was held regarding the Pet Population Control Ordinance, Feral Cat Waiver and Approval, Acceptance and Waiver Form, and Assistance Application. County Chair Schwerer will appoint someone to be the administrator of the pet population fund, Chair Clark recommended Member Kirby, County Chair Schwerer will talk to him about it.
Member Raby moved with a second by Member Walker to approve the Pet Population Control Ordinance, Feral Cat Waiver and Approval, and the McDonough County Pet Population Control Assistance Application. Motion carried on a voice vote.
Claims
Member Dixon moved with a second by Member Raby to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on voice vote.
Other
Plowing at the animal shelter will be handled by the County and the City.

Member Raby moved with a second by Member Walker to adjourn the meeting at 7:23 p.m. Motion carried on a voice vote.
