The Western Illinois University men's and women's cross country teams delivered strong performances at Northern Illinois last Friday. On Wednesday, the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) recognized two runners from the university.
Leathernecks Madison Trevena and Logan Lommel were honored by the conference, earning OVC Runners of the Week.
Trevena and Lommel are the first WIU cross country runners to earn Runner of the Week in the same week since Quintin Thurman and Nicole Beebe on October 28, 2019. That was also the last time either the Leatherneck men or women earned this honor.
Trevena had her second significant meet in a row, being the first Leatherneck to finish on the 5K course. She finished fifth overall with a time of 18:35.72.
For the men, Lommel secured second place overall, covering the four-mile distance in 19:57.32.
Western Illinois will next compete at the Redbird Invite at Illinois State on September 13. The women’s race begins at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s race.
