Western Illinois University Men's Soccer team achieved a decisive 4-0 victory over Northern Illinois Huskies on Friday night in Macomb, Illinois. This win marks the first time Western Illinois has defeated Northern Illinois since 2004, breaking a nine-match losing streak.

The Leathernecks opened the scoring early with freshman forward Ty Duax finding the net in the tenth minute. Oskar Grevelius set up Liam Gainey, who assisted Duax for the initial goal. Despite multiple corner opportunities later in the first half, WIU could not convert further chances.

Goalkeeper Alexis Michaud played a pivotal role in maintaining the shutout, making seven saves overall, including six crucial stops in the second half. Diego Porras had opportunities to extend the lead before halftime but was unable to capitalize.

In the second half, Western Illinois dominated after a hydration break. Benjamin Graham's pass to Tyler Philpott led to senior Jimmy Baars scoring his first goal of the season. Xavier Gagnon then assisted Diego Porras for a third goal. Baars completed his brace following an interception by Liam Gainey.

With this victory, Western Illinois improves its record to 4-3-1 and prepares to face IU Indianapolis in their non-conference finale on Tuesday.

GAME NOTES – This is Western Illinois' first instance of securing four non-conference victories since 2016 and recording multiple four-goal games in one season since that year. It also marks their first back-to-back wins on multiple occasions within a single season since 2016 and their first 3-0 start at home since that same year.
