Western Illinois University's men's soccer team faced another setback in their recent match against Houston Christian University. After a significant loss to Liberty, WIU hoped for a comeback but was met with challenges early in the game. The team allowed three goals within the first twelve minutes, which ultimately led to their defeat.
The first goal came just one minute into the game when HCU's Theo Butterworth delivered a long ball to Thomas Wyke. Wyke then passed it into the box where Ryan Okerayi scored. Shortly after, Micah Ramirez made a save on the backside following a blocked shot from a corner kick, leading to Sam Zeeman's header for HCU's second goal. The third goal was executed by Ethan Giwa-McNeil who passed the ball into the box for Pressler, who scored with a one-timer.
WIU struggled without center-back and captain Joel McIntyre, who missed this match due to a red card received in the previous game against Liberty. The final score was 3-0 in favor of Houston Christian, and WIU was outshot 13-5 during the match.
Looking ahead, Western Illinois aims to improve their conference performance as they prepare to face Incarnate Word in San Antonio on Sunday at 1 PM.
