Western Illinois University's volleyball team faced a challenging match against Lindenwood, ultimately falling in five sets. Keyana Cruse led the offensive efforts for WIU with 23 kills. Teammates Elizabeth Ziegler and Brittany Wulf contributed 13 and nine kills respectively. Maggie Craker supported the team with 49 assists, while Julianna Schmidt made six blocks and Karli Wenzel achieved 23 digs.
In the first set, WIU's defense was crucial, securing four blocks within a short span to lead 11-8 early on. Keyana Cruse's performance helped secure the set at 25-18.
The second set saw Lindenwood take control with multiple scoring runs, achieving 15 kills to win it by the same score of 25-18.
Elizabeth Ziegler started strong in the third set for WIU, helping them gain an early advantage. Despite challenges from Lindenwood, WIU managed to clinch the set at 25-22.
However, Lindenwood dominated the final two sets. They won the fourth set decisively at 25-16 and edged out WIU in a close fifth set at 15-13. A service ace by Keyana Cruse helped tie the final set at 13, but WIU could not maintain momentum to win.
The Leathernecks will next face Tennessee Tech on Thursday and Friday with both matches scheduled for 2 p.m.
