The Western Illinois University Cross Country teams are set to participate in the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria. The event, now in its 19th year, is a prominent Midwest cross country meet featuring 50 college teams across four races. The women's team will compete in the "White" 6K race at 2:15 p.m., while the men's team will take part in the "Red" 8K race at 3:00 p.m.
The Leatherneck women face competition from 40 other teams, including fellow Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) schools Eastern Illinois and SIUE. Experienced runners Aylana Cezar, Maleigha Huston, and Faith Procopio will guide their teammates through the course.
On the men's side, Western Illinois will compete against 29 other teams, including OVC rivals Eastern Illinois, Lindenwood, and SIUE. Logan Lommel and Robert Perry are expected to lead their team as they prepare for the upcoming conference championships.
"This is a great opportunity for our team to sharpen up and race some of the other OVC schools before the conference meet in two weeks," said coach Trey Brokaw. He noted that rainy weather could result in a muddy course but emphasized that his athletes should focus on controlling what they can and competing hard regardless of conditions.
The Ohio Valley Conference Championships are scheduled for October 28th, 2023, in Morehead, Kentucky.
