Western Illinois women’s tennis hosts Southern Indiana on Friday

The Western Illinois women's tennis team will compete at home against Southern Indiana on Friday. The match is set to start at 2 p.m. at the Brophy tennis courts in Macomb, with the Leathernecks facing off against the Screaming Eagles.

The Leathernecks have a record of 2-12 overall and 0-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC). Their most recent match was a 6-1 loss to Eastern Illinois last Friday, where Anna-Evelina Trush secured the team's sole victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Southern Indiana holds a record of 6-8 and is undefeated in conference play with two wins. They recently defeated Lindenwood 4-3 last Sunday and achieved a 7-0 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan on Monday.

Key players for Western Illinois include Anna-Evelina Trush, who leads the team with five singles victories this season. Paige Grice follows closely with four wins. In doubles play, Grice and Lara Rossetto Diniz de Souza have earned four wins this spring as the No. 1 team, while Trush and Aina Cortina-Pou have also secured a doubles victory in league play.

For Southern Indiana, Sophia Davidoff and Antonia Ferrarini each boast seven singles wins this season. Ferrarini teams up with Madison Windham in doubles, where they hold a record of 4-1.

Looking ahead, Western Illinois will take a two-week break before hosting Lindenwood on April 12 for their regular-season home finale, which will also be Senior Day for the Leathernecks. The following day, they will face SIUE in their regular-season finale. The OVC Tournament is scheduled to take place in St. Louis from April 19 to April 21.
