Western Illinois University's volleyball team faced UT Martin on Saturday at the Skyhawk Fieldhouse. The Leathernecks were defeated in four sets, bringing their record to 5-3 in Ohio Valley Conference play and 6-12 overall.

In the first set, Keyana Cruse gave WIU an early lead with a kill. However, UT Martin responded and took the first set 25-16 after a series of plays that extended their lead.

The second set saw WIU take advantage of UT Martin's errors with a 6-0 run. Despite UT Martin's efforts to close the gap, WIU secured the second set 25-19 with contributions from Annika Black and Grace Kremer.

During the third set, both teams exchanged points initially. A mid-set run by UT Martin allowed them to gain separation and ultimately win the set 25-21 despite WIU's late efforts.

In the fourth set, WIU started strong but was unable to maintain their momentum as UT Martin tied it up midway through. A decisive run by UT Martin helped them secure a victory in this final set with a score of 25-20.

Julianna Schmidt led Western Illinois with 13 kills while Keyana Cruse achieved a double-double with 12 kills and 19 digs. Maggie Craker contributed significantly with 35 assists for her team.

The Leathernecks are scheduled for another three-game week, beginning with Chicago State on Tuesday before hosting Southern Indiana next weekend.
