Western's defense held firm for 81 minutes before Loyola managed to score the first goal of the game. The Ramblers had a strong performance, recording 25 shots with 11 on target. Leatherneck goalie Isabel Navas Rodriguez was tested throughout but made eight saves, allowing only one goal.

The match saw Western's defense making crucial plays early on. In the fifth minute, junior Emmy Ellington stopped a potential goal by Loyola. Freshman Ali Matthews also made a significant defensive play in the 28th minute during her first career start alongside Alexis Vasquez.

Loyola applied consistent pressure with eight different players attempting multiple shots. The breakthrough came in the 82nd minute when freshman Zoe Hevey scored for Loyola.

Western is set to face Milwaukee at 1 PM on Sunday, September 3, and will return to Macomb to play against Green Bay on Thursday, September 7.
