Western Illinois midfielder Sachiko Gamo has been recognized for her performance in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) by being named to the All-Newcomer team. This marks her first accolade since joining the Leathernecks.
Gamo led her team with two goals and an assist during conference play. She also ranked fourth in minutes played, and second in both shots and shots on goal for Western Illinois. Notably, she scored twice in a match against SIUE on October 15th. As a transfer from Davis & Elkins, Gamo started every OVC match this season and completed five full games.
Coach Josée Primeau praised Gamo's contributions, stating, "She made an immediate impact on the team. She came in ready for this fall season and was motivated to make the team better. She worked hard day in and day out in training and gave every ounce of herself to her team in games. Sachi is very deserving of this and we are excited about what she will accomplish moving forward."
The OVC Women's Soccer Awards were also announced, highlighting standout players such as Katie Toney from Tennessee Tech as Forward of the Year, Yao Giada Zhou from Tennessee Tech as Midfielder of the Year, Matea Diekema from SIUE as Defender of the Year, Anna Markland from Southern Indiana as Goalkeeper of the Year, Neve Renwick from Tennessee Tech as Freshman of the Year, along with Chris Fox from Morehead State and Steve Springthorpe from Tennessee Tech sharing Co-Coach of the Year honors.
