Logan Lommel made a notable impact in his spring season debut for the Western Illinois University (WIU) track and field team. Competing at the WashU Distance Carnival, Lommel set a new school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase, finishing with a time of 8:58.10. This achievement surpassed his previous record from last year.
In recognition of this accomplishment, the Ohio Valley Conference named Lommel as the Men's Outdoor Track Co-Athlete of the Week on Wednesday. His performance places him 59th nationally in the event, 33rd in the NCAA West Region, and first within the Ohio Valley Conference.
The WIU track and field team is currently taking a break but will resume competition next Saturday at the SIUE Cougar Classic.
