Arnie Grunert has secured a spot in the NCAA National Championships for the second consecutive year. The athlete achieved this by finishing second in the First Round of the NCAA West Regional with a vault of 5.42 meters. Grunert, who hails from Mokena, Illinois, will return to Eugene, Oregon, where he placed 17th last year with a vault of 5.22 meters.
During the event in College Station, Texas, Grunert began by clearing 5.02 meters on his first attempt. He then faulted on his initial try at 5.17 meters but succeeded on his second attempt to progress to the next height. At 5.32 meters, he repeated this pattern by failing on his first attempt and succeeding on his second try to clear the bar. Among fourteen competitors attempting 5.42 meters, Grunert was successful on his first attempt and thus advanced to the National Championship round.
The NCAA National Championships are scheduled for June 11-14 in Eugene, Oregon.
