The Western Illinois University men's and women's track and field teams are set to compete in the Jimmy Grant Invitational on Saturday. The event will take place at the University of Iowa Hawkeye Indoor Track Facility in Iowa City. Teams from Iowa, Wisconsin, Truman, and several club squads will also participate.

Western Illinois is bringing nearly its full roster to this weekend's meet, aiming for a strong performance before the winter break. This follows their recent success at the Purdue Northwest Collegiate Invitational in Chicago last Friday.

At that event, both the men's and women's 4x400 relay teams claimed victory. The men's team included Jaiden Young, Isaac Jones, Caleb Ware, and Malachi Barendilla. The women's team featured Nakeita Kessling, Briza Dure, Passion Crews, and Aliyah Adams, who ran the third-fastest indoor 4x400 in program history.

In individual events at Purdue Northwest Collegiate Invitational, Logan Lommel won the men's 800 meters while Maleigha Huston secured first place for the women. Additionally, Kessling and Crews achieved a one-two finish in the 400 meters. Adams and Dure placed second and fourth respectively in the 200 meters.

After this weekend's competition, Western Illinois will take a break for the semester and holidays. They are scheduled to return to Iowa City for their next meet at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational on January 19-20.
