The Western Illinois track and field teams participated in the Iowa State Alumni Meet, where junior Logan Lommel broke the school's 1500-meter record with a time of 3:48.31. The previous record was set at 3:49.85 by Jeff Reed in 1992. This achievement adds to Lommel's collection of four individual school records and six total, including relay records.
"Logan had a fantastic race this weekend. His first ever mile race in college was 4:34 three years ago. Today's school record 1500 meter time equates to a 4:04 mile. His development is a testament of his tremendous work ethic, competitiveness, and ability to execute," coach Trey Brokaw said. "We needed this performance so that Logan could improve his conference ranking, which allows him to be seeded in the fast section at the conference championships next weekend."
In women's events, Briza Dure achieved a personal best in the 100 meters and nearly matched her personal best in the 200 meters, improving her standing on the conference performance list for both events. Paulina Wuestefeld won the women's 1500 meters but narrowly missed setting her personal best.
The Leathernecks are preparing for the Summit League Conference Championships scheduled from May 11-13, 2023, in Fargo, ND.
