Western Illinois baseball falls to Bradley Braves 16-1

The Western Illinois baseball team faced a challenging game on Tuesday afternoon, losing 16-1 to the Bradley Braves at Alfred D. Boyer Stadium. This result brings Western Illinois' season record to 10-30.

The Leathernecks started strong by holding the Braves scoreless in the first inning. However, Bradley's offense gained momentum in the second inning, scoring six runs and establishing a 6-0 lead. The Braves continued their offensive push with three more runs in both the third and fourth innings, extending their lead to 12-0.

Western Illinois managed to score in the fifth inning. Jackson Horn initiated the effort with a line drive to center field. Grant Palmer then grounded into a fielder's choice, putting a runner on first with one out. Trevor Leon followed with a single over the first baseman's head, advancing Palmer. Max Slavens walked, loading the bases for Justin Jang, who grounded out but allowed Palmer to score, reducing the deficit to 12-1.

Bradley added two more runs in both the sixth and seventh innings, concluding the game with a 16-1 victory after seven innings.

Cesar Franco recorded an extra-base hit for Western Illinois with his double in the second inning. J.R. Heavilin, Jackson Horn, and Trevor Leon also contributed base hits during the game.

Western Illinois is set to continue its schedule with a game against Illinois State on Wednesday before hosting Little Rock for Alumni Weekend.
