Western Illinois University's baseball team faced a tough defeat against Tennessee Tech, losing 12-2 in Friday night's game. This result places the Leathernecks at 6-17 for the season and 2-3 in Ohio Valley play.

The game started with promise for Western Illinois when Liam Bushey hit a two-out double to center field. However, the Leathernecks failed to capitalize on this early opportunity. Tennessee Tech quickly took control of the game by scoring six runs in the first inning and extending their lead to 10-0 by the second inning.

Despite settling defensively in the third inning, Western Illinois allowed another run in the fourth, bringing Tennessee Tech's lead to 11-0. The Leathernecks managed to get on the scoreboard during the sixth inning when Adam Juran hit a solo home run. Kyree Alexander continued with his second double of the day, followed by Brock Lummus's double that added another run for Western Illinois.

Although Brock Lummus and J.R. Heavilin drew walks later in the game, they could not convert these into additional runs. Tennessee Tech scored again in the eighth inning, securing their victory with a final score of 12-2.

Kyree Alexander led his team with two hits out of eight total for Western Illinois. Both Brock Lummus and Adam Juran were responsible for driving in runs during this matchup. Colton Kachinsky pitched five innings from the bullpen, conceding just one run.

The series between Western Illinois and Tennessee Tech will conclude tomorrow at 2:00 p.m., as scheduled.
