FOIA Request Sent to City Of Jacksonville Finance Department Regarding City Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024

FOIA Request to City Of Jacksonville Finance Department Regarding City Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at West Central Reporter have submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The request was sent to the City Of Jacksonville Finance Department on October 31, 2024.

Our request specifically seeks a list of businesses that paid sales tax to the city from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024. We have asked for this list to include each business's name and type, as well as the amount of sales tax each business paid during this period.

In addition to this detailed breakdown, we have also requested the total amount of sales tax that the city collected during this same period.

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We will continue to keep you updated on our efforts to provide comprehensive coverage of local governmental affairs.
