The Western Illinois men's soccer team secured a spot in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament with a 1-0 victory over Houston Christian. This marks the Leathernecks' first postseason appearance since 2019.

In the match, Western Illinois attempted seven shots in the first half, with only one on target. The game was marked by aggressive play, resulting in two yellow cards before halftime. Goalkeeper Micah Ramirez made one save during the opening half, which ended scoreless.

The decisive moment came in the 50th minute when Xavier Gagnon scored with a header from a cross by Gabe Chapa, giving Western Illinois the lead. The final 20 minutes were tense as Houston Christian sought to equalize, but Western Illinois maintained their defensive record at home by not conceding any goals and securing the win.

With this victory, Western Illinois will have a week off to prepare for their upcoming match against Lindenwood Lions in Edwardsville, Ill., scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.
