Western Hall | Western Illinois University Leathernecks
The Western Illinois Volleyball team is set to play three matches in four days as they aim to improve their standing in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC). The Leathernecks will face Lindenwood on Tuesday before hosting Morehead State on Thursday and Friday.
Currently, Lindenwood holds second place in the OVC with a 10-3 conference record, while Western Illinois trails closely behind in fourth place with a 9-4 record. A victory for the Leathernecks against Lindenwood could result in a three-team tie for second place. If Western Illinois wins in four sets or fewer, they would secure second place due to holding the tiebreaker over Little Rock, which also stands at 10-4.
Lindenwood has been performing strongly this season, starting with a 10-1 record in the OVC. Their recent losses to Morehead State have tightened the competition among the top teams. Key players for Lindenwood include Outside Hitter Nyah Wilson and Freshman Autumn Bax, who contribute significantly to the team's offensive strength. Defensively, Libero Jessie Seidel leads in total digs and Middle Blocker Ashley Geluck excels in total blocks.
Morehead State enters this week with a 7-5 conference record and is currently positioned fifth in the standings. The Eagles are led by Outside Hitter M.E. Hargan, who has accumulated 282 kills this season. Defensively, Middle Blocker Irene Wogenstahl leads her team with an average of 1.04 blocks per set.
Following these matches, Western Illinois will conclude their regular season with games against Tennessee State on November 14 and 15.
