FOIA Request to City of Barry Regarding Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at West Central Reporter have submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. The request was sent to the City of Barry on October 30, 2024.
Our request specifically seeks a list of all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, up until the present date. We have asked for this information to be provided in several specific fields including the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address, and contractor name.
In addition to this, we have also requested a list of all currently active residential and commercial building permits along with their status. This data should also include the same fields as mentioned above.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
