Western Illinois University's football team faced a challenging game against Southeast Missouri, ranked 12th, losing with a final score of 54-45. The Leathernecks initially led the first quarter 14-10, but SEMO capitalized on penalties and errors to secure their victory.

SEMO scored first in the game with a touchdown midway through the opening quarter. Western Illinois quickly countered with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Nathan Lamb to Brandon Lanier. The Leathernecks managed to hold SEMO to a field goal on their next drive and took an early lead when Lamb connected with Cameren Smith for an 81-yard touchdown reception, bringing the score to 14-10.

In the second quarter, SEMO regained momentum with a touchdown that put them ahead at 17-14. WIU responded promptly as Tanner Zolnosky threw a 29-yard pass to Demari Davis, reclaiming the lead at 21-17. Antonio Chadha extended WIU's advantage with a successful 46-yard field goal. However, SEMO replied with two touchdowns before halftime, taking back control at 31-24. Chadha narrowed the gap for WIU by making another field goal just before halftime, closing it to four points at 31-27.

After halftime, SEMO furthered their lead by scoring both a touchdown and a field goal, increasing their advantage to 41-27. Western Illinois answered back when Lamb threw an impressive 81-yard pass to Matt Henry; however, Chadha's extra point attempt was blocked, setting the score at 41-33. Despite holding SEMO to only one field goal in the next drive, WIU entered the fourth quarter trailing by eleven points.

Cameren Smith opened scoring in the fourth quarter for WIU but failed on their two-point conversion attempt left them down by five points at 44-39.
