Western Illinois women's basketball falls to UT Martin; prepares for Tennessee State

Western Illinois Women's basketball team faced a challenging game against UT Martin on Thursday night at Western Hall, resulting in a 73-60 defeat. This loss places the Leathernecks at an overall record of 7-7 and 1-4 within the Ohio Valley Conference.

Raegan McCowan led the team with a notable performance, scoring 21 points, grabbing eight rebounds, and blocking two shots. Despite shooting 8-23 from the field, her contribution was significant for the Leathernecks. Addi Brownfield also made an impact by scoring ten points, securing five rebounds, and providing three assists. Her efforts included two crucial three-pointers that energized the team during key moments. Allie Meadows supported with eleven points through successful long-range shots while Mia Nicastro focused on defense with seven rebounds and four steals.

The Leathernecks struggled with turnovers throughout the game, committing eighteen mistakes which resulted in sixteen points for their opponents, UT Martin's Skyhawks.

In the fourth quarter, Western Illinois showed determination by scoring twenty-one points—their highest of any quarter in this match—but could not close the gap to secure a win.

Looking ahead, WIU will face Tennessee State at home on Saturday at 1 p.m.
