A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Scott County Il Clerk & Elections Division on February 5, 2025. The request was made by us at West Central Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In our pursuit of transparency and accountability in public institutions, we requested specific records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The information sought is primarily related to the candidates running for the upcoming election.
We have asked for a list of all candidates that are running in this forthcoming election. The details requested include each candidate's first, middle, and last name; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; and their party affiliation.
In addition to these basic details about each candidate, we also requested their contact information. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As members of the media committed to gathering and reporting news to the public, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals given our role in disseminating information.
We await a response from the Scott County Il Clerk & Elections Division regarding our request. As always, we remain committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public through our reporting.
