FOIA Request to Cass County Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As a part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at West Central Reporter have sent a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, to the Cass County Election Division. We are seeking information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.
Our request includes obtaining details such as the candidate's first, middle and last names, the office they are running for, the jurisdiction of that office and their party affiliation. We also asked for all contact information for each candidate which includes their address, phone number and email address.
Access to public records is essential for us at West Central Reporter to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We await response from the Cass County Election Division regarding this request.
