WIU tennis team secures home victory against opponents

The Western Illinois University (WIU) tennis team secured a 6-1 victory at home. The Leathernecks started strong in doubles play, winning two out of three matches. Nour Gueblaoui and Chloé Routier faced a challenging match at No. 1, ultimately losing 6-7 (5-7). Meanwhile, Lara Souza and Anna Trush won their match with a decisive 6-2 score at No. 3. Paige Grice and Mana Fawcett clinched a close victory at No. 2 with a score of 7-5, giving WIU an early lead.

In singles competition, Grice quickly defeated her opponent with scores of 6-3 and 6-0 at No. 3. Fawcett followed suit with a convincing win of 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4. Freshman Chloé Routier marked her return from injury by winning her match at No. 1 with scores of 6-3 and 6-2.

Souza delivered the most thrilling match of the day at No. 2, overcoming her opponent in three sets: losing the first set 3-6 but coming back to win the next two sets, including a tiebreaker that ended in her favor at 7-6 (14-12). Trush was unable to secure a win in her singles match, falling in straight sets of 3-6 and 1-6 at No. 6. Nour Gueblaoui concluded the event with another win for WIU, dominating her opponent with scores of 6-3 and 6-0 at No. 5.

The Leathernecks will travel to DeKalb on Saturday, February 8th to compete against Northern Illinois University Huskies.
