The Leathernecks baseball team faced a difficult match against Saint Louis, resulting in a 6-0 defeat on Tuesday night. Despite their efforts, the Leathernecks' offensive lineup only managed six hits throughout the game.
In the first inning, Paul Osting hit a lead-off double, followed by Liam Bushey who earned a walk, setting a promising start for Western Illinois. With bases loaded after a one-out walk from Matt Olive, hopes were high, but a double play ended the inning without scoring. The eighth inning saw another attempt as Trevor Leon hit a one-out single, followed by Osting's walk, putting runners on first and second. Tyler Large's two-out single added to their efforts, but Leon was out at the plate, maintaining a scoreless board for the Leathernecks. Six different team members recorded a hit, and three walks were forced during the game.
Harrison Dubois, Billy Humphrey, Colton Kachinsky, and Mason Telford shared pitching duties, covering six of the eight innings and allowing two runs over six hits. Despite the result, the bullpen's performance provided some positive outlook for upcoming matches.
The Leathernecks, with a season record of 6-18, are set to return to Alfred D. Boyer Stadium for a series against Tennessee Tech starting Friday at 2 p.m.
