Maria Luna made a notable impact with a three-run home run in the seventh inning, invigorating the Leathernecks' late-game surge. The Leathernecks depicted a vigorous offensive thrust in the late innings, scoring three in the sixth and four in the seventh, highlighted by Luna’s home run and Ketcherside’s RBI double. Western Illinois fought valiantly with 15 hits and nine RBIs, showcasing one of their better offensive displays this season, but ultimately fell short defensively.
The Leathernecks aim to recover in their upcoming match against conference rival SIUE, scheduled for April 18-19 at Mary Ellen McKee Stadium in Macomb, Illinois.
