Western Illinois University's softball team experienced two losses in a doubleheader against Eastern Illinois University. Despite offensive contributions from several players, WIU was unable to secure a victory in either game.

In the first matchup, Western Illinois was defeated 8-2. The Leathernecks achieved a total of 10 hits, with Payton Brown and Megan Leonard each obtaining two. Maria Luna offered a standout performance by hitting a solo home run in the fifth inning. Lillie Wools also contributed with two hits, while RyLee German added a double. Eastern Illinois utilized important opportunities and consistent hitting to establish a lead that WIU could not surpass.

In the pitching department for game one, Lillie Wools initiated as the starter, supported by Audrey Clark and Kaelyn Walters from the bullpen.

The second game saw Payton Brown excel at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double, a triple, and an RBI. Sophia Sanchez scored two runs for the Leathernecks in the third inning with a single, while Kaylee Ketcherside and Megan Leonard each crossed home plate.

Kaitlyn Green delivered a complete game effort with four strikeouts. Despite her initial success in holding the Panthers scoreless through five innings, EIU scored six runs in the final two innings to secure their win.

With these losses, Western Illinois is no longer in contention for the postseason. The team aims to end their season positively in the series finale against Eastern Illinois on Sunday.
