Western Illinois University’s women’s soccer team lost to Omaha 7-1 on Sunday at Northwest Field. Omaha scored five goals in the first half and added two more after halftime. Western Illinois got its only goal in the 71st minute, when sophomore Abigail Schilling scored with an assist from Simone Thorst.
Goalkeepers Ariel Bernard and Lillian Johns shared duties in goal for Western Illinois, making a combined 10 saves as Omaha recorded 30 shots. The Leathernecks managed four shots, two of which were on target. Omaha led in both shot attempts and corner kicks, finishing with a 30-4 advantage in shots and an 11-2 edge in corners.
The loss drops Western Illinois to a season record of 1-8. The team is scheduled to play again Thursday, hosting St. Thomas.
